Welcome to the Mature Social Intrigues of JZ's Sci-Fantasy.
The “What if” question is said to be the basis of all fiction. This has truth and may be the strongest element which shaped JZ’s writing. His life provided a plentitude of what ifs, developing his views – often hearkening back to distant cultures. There were many what if’s during JZ’s life.
What if JZ’s conservative father stayed with his infertile first wife and not gotten together with his quite fertile, gypsy-like second wife. What if JZ’s parents stayed in Montana where he was born and settled down, not moving to Arizona where his sister was born? What if they stayed there, instead of going on to Nevada, then to California, then up to Washington State. Even in each state after Montana, they moved from town to town – all through the 1960s and 1970s, a radical time to be growing up, he watched and talked with a wide variety of people, comparing lifestyles and views. What he observed became part of his writings.
He wished to learn more back then and still does. He tried asking instructors in his early years, though they resisted his insatiable curiosity. They had little time for it. What if he listened to the instructors when they told me to stopped questioning why and accept their knowledge as absolute? Very few gave reasons for their dictate – only that it was to be accepted as truth. Most of his schooling was matter of memorizing what was proper and move on. That is not a way to teach people and he ignored their limitations. Furthermore, he never stopped questioning the presumed realities, continuing to observe and learn, looking for deeper truths. Because of the many people and views he observed and conversed with, JZ gained a greater understanding of why people do what they do.
His experience continued after the death of his father, the new stepfather, time in the Air Force and civilian life. What if he never joined the Air Force; traveled overseas, see other cultures and compare their differences, as well as similarities. He had a good technical career in the service, though it restricted his creative nature. What if he stayed in the military, concentrating on that career, feeling he should remain because it was stable and secure?
Through it all, JZ grew close relations with many people, learning from each of them. What if his personal relations were limited to a few local people back in Montana and not the diverse collection from many places? What if he narrowed his focus like so many others? Would he have created Laserfica and the diverse multiverse?
At least in this timeline, we don’t have to worry about those what ifs. They did happen and it shaped JZ profoundly, giving opportunities to see people in a much broader perspective. Because of those what ifs and many more, he had created the worlds, cultures – even the rich, fictionalized multiverse.
JZ did create those works, though not always during smooth times. Much concentration was needed, especially through wife’s breakdown and consequences of her mental condition. He had given up much, but not his creative drive. What if he throw his hands in the air and left instead of growing from those trials. What if he let all the confusion and hardships of that time distract him, stopping his creative push?
JZ did stick with it and continued writing. He is still creating and viewing the world differently and much more is to come because of it.
No one has ever mistaken JZ for being conventional. Most who knows the masle, perceives him as holding a unique perspective of life and the world – if not fully out of his mind. There may be many reasons for this. The masle has gained a broad perspective from the many places he had lived throughout the 1960s to the present. There was also lessons learned from his conservative father and gypsy-like mother; scattered education; ten years in the Air Force; personal relations; and wide range of other experiences.
JZ’s not an expert at any one thing having that wide range of experiences, including ten years in the Air Force where he had a technical and managing career in communication. His love of science, culture, history and more brought in his view for his creations. His involvement with a couple medieval recreation groups, creation of games, helping femellas with their therapeutic recovery of traumatic experiences, renovation of the home, exploration of astronomy – even a conservative interest in dark government and occults help broaden his view of societies and the universe.
Through a variety of setbacks, he had wrote, created games and wrote some more. It wasn’t until Laserfica took shape did the stories do so as well. It took time to develop the rich worlds, cultures and multiverse to the point of it having its own life. When it did, the writings erupted into epic proportion.
His life gave ample opportunity to view societies and people. With all the moving done as a child, as well as his service time, he experienced the diversity of this world. Everything he had seen gave him a wide perspective of people, including their motivations and reactions. All that experience translated into the writings and other works of creation.
He intends to continue creating, expressing what needs to be said – even if it is hard for some to hear.
